Magical Brayer

This technique is so much fun to watch come together!  Stamp small flowers on a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Then, stamp large flowers randomly OVER the small flowers but using Versamark ink.  Coat with clear embossing powder and heat-set.  Using a brayer, ink up in the same color you stamped the small flowers, in this case: Rich Razzleberry.  Roll over and over (re-inking as needed) until the image is dark enough.  Spritz some Stampin' Mist onto the cardstock and wipe off excess ink from the heat embossed flowers.  Voila! Magical flowers!  Add some embellishments and DONE!  Beware of your fingers though... this can be messy!

Creamsicle Card

The great thing about the Stampin' community is the constant flow of ideas and inspiration and what we call C.A.S.E.  (Create And Share Everything).  My upline, Jamie Albanese (http://www.gettincraftystampin.com/) created this Creamsicle card and emailed the picture out to everyone. I just fell in love with this idea!!  So cute!  Imagine invitations made from this?  Anyway, the great thing about CASEing is the fact that we CAN DO IT as long as we give credit to the creator!  So, I came up with my own rendition of her card (not much different from the original) and did this at a class.

Flowers in a Jar

Every year, Stampin' Up! has a Convention in Salt Lake City.  For those of us in my Stampin' circle who couldn't attend, we arranged a Mini Convention/Shoebox Swap.  We all gathered at a Bed & Breakfast in Pine Mountain Country Club, courtesy of Pam (my downline) and we stamped and chatted and had a great time.  Afterwards we went to the local pizza place and had more fun.  It was a great afternoon with some wonderful women.  Here is the swap that I made for the group.  Tomorrow, I will post all the other cards I made from our shoebox swap.

This stamp set is from the new Holiday Mini catalog on page 29.  Such a fun set!

After a summer like mine, it's DEFINITELY TIME FOR A DRINK!  :)  I just love this new stamp set called Happy Hour... It has more than just summer drink options... there's stamps for Christmas and New Years that can be used.  There's a cute peppermint stick, some holly and an olive on a toothpick.  LOL!

The Polka Dot Parade Designer Series Paper is a perfect compliment to this stamp set with the tiny bubbles as the background!  :)

Oh! HELLO BLOG WORLD!

It's been a long time!

Wow, what an end of summer!  BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!  I recently accepted a full-time position at my work, and between kids' things and my things and vacation things, these blog things went to the back burner!

While on vacation in San Francisco, our car window was broken and my purse was stolen.. cell phone, credit cards, license.. etc.  I have just finally had the last of the items replaced, including my cell phone (cha-ching!),  and things are finally getting back to normal.

Stay tuned for all the cards I have been making over the past few weeks!

Retired Simply Sent card

I was going through some bags and organizing when I came across an unmade card from a stamp camp... likely from last year (I can't remember).  This card was made using elements from our retired Simply Sent collections.  We don't carry Simply Sent kits anymore but we still have the Simply Scrappin' collections where you get all the elements to make scrapbook pages... easily convertable to cards!  See page 165 in the 2012-2013 Idea Book and Catalog.  What?!  Don't have a catalog?  Let's get together!  I have one for you!

Punched Circles All Occasions

Simple and elegant!   Although this one is made for a baby shower, imagine leaving out the saying on the bottom and making a bunch of these.  When it's time for an event, just stamp the words you need from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set, punch out with the Word Window Punch and just add the phrase you need!  Perfect for many occasions!

Easter Basket Weave Scrapbook Page

I've always loved the look of a paper basket weave and when you use Stampin' Up!'s Designer Series Paper, how can you go wrong??  Each pack of paper is meant to coordinate perfectly with each other, one page with another or front of one to the back of the same one.  The colors coordinate perfectly with Stampin' Up!'s cardstock and what's great is if you don't have the time to come up with a color combination... Just pull out a sheet of Designer Series Paper and pick two of the colors... Instant color match!

Head or Tails? Scrapbook Page

I saw these two pictures in my collection and laughed.  All of my kids (dogs are included in that group) are sitting perfectly and in order from the top picture to the bottom picture, too!  The top picture is all of their "heads" smiling at the camera... The bottom pictures:  Their "tails"!  LOL!  I thought of pennies when I named the page and then began the color scheme...

Although this Sizzix Box #2 Die has retired, I have decided to keep it.  It makes for a super-cute small basket/box for gift-giving.  With a couple cuts, you can turn this box with a lid into a basket!  Want to know more?  How about a workshop??  You gather a few friends, and I'll come with the supplies to show you how to make a super-cute project like this one!  Not to mention the hostess benefit you will receive when you host a party!  How about free products?  Who wouldn't want THAT?!

SQSC45 Entry

I love these challenges!!  :)  Talk about making you think out of the box!

Here is this week's challenge:

SQSC-002
SQSC45 ***
http://gettincrafty.typepad.com/stampin_queens_sketch_cha/

***I found it funny that after going back to SQSC's website to get a copy of the image for this challenge layout for this post, I noticed another entry also used the same Lovely as a Tree stamp set... Just a coincidence, I promise!  I don't scroll down on purpose when looking at the challenge layout because I really believe in coming up with my own ideas, but I think it's great that the layout inspired two individuals to use the same stamp set!  :)
After all this heat we've been having, I long for Autumn.  I just wish we could skip right over Summer as it is my least favorite season (yet here I am living in the desert of Southern California!), but cardmaking and challenges allow me to think ahead... WAY ahead!  :)  So a Fall-themed card is what I did!

Have you ever used bleach as an ink?  Give it a try!  But be sure to be in a well-ventilated area.  Put a folded paper towel on a plastic or styrofoam plate and pour enough bleach over it to soak the towel.  After that, choose the stamp you want to use and lightly tap the stamp on the paper towel... stamp onto your cardstock and let it dry or dry with a heat tool to speed things up and watch your image appear! (Clean your rubber stamp right away to remove the bleach)  The image might be a bit blotchy, so what I do is go back with a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and stamp over the dried image in a dark color.  The effect is stunning and unique!

Stamp Set:
Lovely as a Tree

Early Espresso, Always Artichoke and Crumb Cake cardstock

BluRay Butterfly

Seriously!  A BluRay Butterfly!  Now, forgive the geek in me (I DO work in Geek Squad), but there's a difference in CD's and BluRay discs and let me explain that where it applies to cutting for cards:

The regular CD's (the slightly green tinted ones) are one layer of plastic and just a coating on the bottom.  When you cut a butterfly out of one of those, the backing could peel off, for one, but what you cut is what you get. There won't be any change.  They are great for making all kinds of neat things and for also peeling off the backing and adding your own Designer Series Paper.

But when you cut a BluRay disc, they are constructed of two pieces of plastic with the coating between the layers.  What happens when you cut it is amazing:  The two layers will come apart and on one side, you'll have most of the coating with this cool watermarked BLUE metallic layer and on the other layer, the coating will be purple watermarked and the butterfly will be mostly clear!  Give it a try!  Don't mind the creaking and cracking as you run the discs through the Big Shot... I scared a BUNCH of guests at my last class!

Bargello Scrapbook Page

As promised yesterday, here is an alternative to the same elements of the scrapbook page.  Using the same crinkled flowers and the same photo size and journaling size, you can come up with a completely different look.  The background technique is called Bargello and is when you take a patterned paper and cut it into strips and step it up or down or up and down in a wave on the page to create a whole new pattern!  Stunning to see a finished project

I have always said that I am not a scrapbooker, but wow I could get started!  This is something I came up with using some retired Designer Series Paper.  The flowers are made from crinkling 3 scallop circles and fluffing them with a vintage brad in the middle.  Tomorrow, I will have another scrapbook page using some of the same elements.

Artisan Design Team 2012

Every year, Stampin' Up! Demonstrators have a chance to enter to be a part of a coveted team:  the Artisan Design Team.  For a one-year term, these 10 Demonstrators will be sent Stampin' Up! product to come up with ideas to show off on their blog and in magazines.

I decided this year to try it out.  The challenge:  Create 5 handmade cards, 3 scrapbook pages and 2 3-D items.  I cannot show what I entered, but they are in this room somewhere!

They were supposed to have 20 finalists picked by the 15th, and when I didn't receive a phone call yesterday, I sadly figured that I wasn't part of the 20.  But then, on Facebook, Stampin' up! posted that there was a delay min the judging and the winners will be notified by next week instead!  Oh the pins and needles continue and my hope is renewed!  From the 20 finalists, there will be another judging and the group will be composed of 10 super-talented Demonstrators who get to play for the next year with amazing Stampin' Up! product providing inspiration for all!

Fingers crossed!
My entries are in this sea of talent somewhere!

SQSC27-004
Here is the layout idea
I've never participated in one of these challenges before, but I've always been intrigued and with this particular challenge, I saw a sunset in the sketch they provided.  So here is what I came up with.  Sunset Silhouettes!  :)  I just love it and even my hubby was impressed!  It's hard to see, but on the very bottom of the card, embossed in black, it says "my friend".  To get those bird shapes, punch a heart in the cardstock and then offset the punch above the heart just enough to create the birds.  :)

Thank you for the challenge!

Tonight, I created a cool Father's Day card.  With the use of a few punches, you can make your own bowtie card!  Super fun for Dad and super cute, too!

Distressed Corkboard

I needed a corkboard above my desk to display cards and put reminders, but I didn't just want a plain old corkboard.  So, using a cheap can of flat-black spray paint, painter's masking tape and our very own Mostly Vintage Decor Stencil, I got to work.  When I was all done, I used some sand-paper and distressed the frame and also the corkboard itself to make it look worn through time and not so newly-painted and fresh.  I really love how this turned out and it goes perfectly with my decor!

Framelit Folder

The new Sizzix Framelits are so neat!  We created this card using 3 of the largest Framelits.  The largest one is just shy of a normal sized card, so they fit in the envelope really well.  It was really fun to keep the card hinged by not cutting that side of the card.  Cool, cool!

Unexpected Email

I received the COOLEST email this morning.  At first though, I almost deleted it because it wasn't from someone I knew... But fate interfered and instead of deleting it, it opened up on accident.  So, since it was already open, I read through it and it just made my day!  I am SO glad it didn't get deleted!

This is what it said:

------------------------------------------
Sarah,

I wanted to thank you for your beautiful stamped card that you made for the troops.  I am the recipient of one and was happy to have your email to thank you. I especially like cards and writing my loved ones back
home.  I stamp when I am at home too.  People like you brighten our days out here.  Thank you and those like you!

God Bless,

What an amazing way to start my day!  I'm so flattered that she took the time to let me know she received one of my cards!  This is the type of thing that inspires me to continue what I do!  Amazing!
